MAINTENANCE

To ensure your security shutters continue to operate smoothly, you will need to clean and lubricate them periodically. How often you need to do so is based on the location of the shutters, and factors such as temperature, humidity, chlorides and other atmospheric pollutants.

Shutters installed indoors and inland will require less maintenance than shutters installed outdoors and close to the sea. This is due to the high corrosivity conditions of the British coastal areas compared to the lower corrosivity conditions of inland areas.

  • If your Security Shutters are installed in a high to extremely high corrosivity area, we recommend cleaning and lubricating every 1 to 4 weeks.
  • If your Security Shutters are installed in a low to medium corrosivity area, we recommend cleaning and lubricating every 3 to 6 months. *

*These intervals are for general guidance and specific local conditions need to be considered.

CLEANING

Step 1:Remove all surface dust and grit with a feather duster, vacuum cleaner or water (if shutters are installed outdoors). This step is very important as cleaning with any dust and grit left on the shutters could scratch the finish.

Step 2:Using a damp soft cotton cloth, wipe down the shutters to remove contaminates such as salt and industrial fallout. Never use abrasive materials or detergent- and solvent-based cleaners such as thinners or mineral turpentine as these may damage the powder-coated finish of your shutters.

Step 3:Dry the shutters with a chamois or soft cotton cloth.

Step 4:Remove all dirt and debris from the bottom channel using a small broom or vacuum cleaner.

LUBRICATION

Keep your Security Shutters’ wheels, hinges, and pivots lubricated with a multipurpose lubricant spray.

If the lock cylinder becomes stiff due to extreme conditions you can make use of a graphite powder lubricant* It is important that no lubricant spray is used in the lock cylinder.

*In all cases, read the product instructions and cautions prior to application, and use strictly as the manufacturer recommends.
